Eligible participants are invited to participate in the RESIST-ADT Trial. This is a randomized, controlled, parallel group research study of 6-month duration is designed to study the effectiveness of structured exercise training in preventing decline in physical function in men with prostate cancer who are planning to undergo androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which is also known as “hormone therapy for prostate cancer”. Men undergoing ADT generally experience a decline in muscle strength, which impacts their physical function and predisposes them to frailty and a higher risk of falls. Additionally, these men also experience a decrease in quality of life and experience fatigue (tiredness). This research study is taking a preventative approach by implementing exercise interventions shortly after participants being ADT. The exercises in this study are specifically designed to improve muscle mass, muscle strength and physical function.

Study Activities Include:

– Vital signs

– Height and weight

– EKG

– Blood sample collection

– Physical exam

– DEXA scan

– Muscle strength and physical function tests

– Questionnaires

– Exercise sessions twice per week for six months

The health of participants will be closely monitored by study clinicians. Participant’s will be financially compensated for each study visit completed, and the total compensation for completing all study visits is $1500.00. Additionally, free parking will be provided at each visit along with a meal voucher for visits that require fasting.
